National Dog Show 2011

The Management Committee look forward to welcoming exhibitors, old and new, to the Stafford Agricultural Showground during 5th - 8th May 2011. There is plenty of parking and exhibitors will find the signage helpful. Exhibitors should always have their Car Park passes displayed prior to arrival as the colour coding will enable speedy recognition as to their designated parking spot in the most convenient area. Our 'meet and greet' team will be on hand as you arrive to point you in the right direction where the aim is for dogs to be benched in close proximity to their rings. On departure it is essential passes are shown to protect the safety of all exhibits. An Unentered Dogs tent is available - please remember however that all such dogs will require an Exit Pass, obtainable from the Secretary or the Chief Steward throughout the day.

Exhibitors wishing to enter the Breeders?Competition should be aware that a number of changes to the competition for 2010 have been announced since the schedule for the National was published. Details may be found on the Kennel Club’s website at www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2788

Free tea and coffee is served around the BIS ring in the evenings during the group judging.

Our grateful thanks go to the efficient team of ring stewards who support the show and of course to our judges. We trust that exhibitors, judges, stewards, officials, and everybody involved will enjoy the National 2011.

  Please Note

No filming and or video recording within the confines of the National Dog Show 2011 is allowed without the express permission of the show management

'From Little Acorns'

A few copies remain of this interesting record of the history of the Birmingham Dog Show Society. There are many illustrations and it includes amusing anecdotes that detail why a particular Kennel Club rule was introduced. Several of the Birmingham gentlemen involved with this society were responsible for the formation of the Kennel Club, now our governing body, 14 years later. When the first dog show took place in 1859 - there were only pointers and setters, later 'foreign' dogs were introduced. As ladies took an interest and began to exhibit, there was concern about the amount of sawdust on the floor soiling their long skirts. What would they think of today's outfits and of course the man made 'tracking' used to walk on over the grass? Things have certainly changed in the dog world in some aspects but as you will see if you read this fascinating account, some things are just the same.
